Post any freeware games you find interesting here, along with why you think that they are good.
Battleships Forever - Kinda interesting game, ability to control several spacecraft that can be designed by the player. Video
Dwarf Fortress - Text for graphics RTS/RPG/SIM type game, with physics and other such cool features. Where else can you make a tower that rises three hundred feet above the highest mountain and can pump lava up on top of invaders, then selectively close entrances and drown any who manage to make it in? Or how about capturing and breeding fearsome animals to unleash on your enemies whenever they attack, or simply to use as food? In RPG mode, you can get your weapon stuck in something as it runs away, and then hurl your shield at it as a throwing disk, typically bringing it down in one hit if you manage to hit it, often causing gory explosions as limbs and heads go flying. (Warning, massive learning curve, and difficult as heck to understand at first.) Video
Notrium - Very good survival game. Allows you to be human, android, alien, or a psionic character. Humans and androids rely on weaponry they create to survive, while the alien evolves over time. The psionic character has to unlock more and more of its mind to continue its attempts to survive and escape. Each has its own play style, and its own goals. Humans and androids can easily decide to build a base with automated turrets and sandbags, while the alien can quickly slip past enemies and slaughter them, as well as raising hordes of offspring to help. The psionic generally waits for the right time to act, and then annihilates anything in its path. If you play this, I recommend downloading Uberwaffle's Werivar mod and using it rather than the base game, as it introduces a massive number of improvements. (No video for this one, only two I found were hideous quality.)
Sword of the New World - MMORPG, allows each person to control up to three characters at once, and keep up to forty on a server. Quite cool, has Warriors, Healers/Assassins, Elementalists, Wizards, Musketeers, and multiple Unique Player Classes that you get from doing quests for people. Video of Musketeer class
