Let me just say this, Magicks is the manipulation, direction and changing of naturally existing energies, by way of intent thru ritual and/or understanding and then bound to a given purpose. All things have energy rather physical or non-physical. It is these energies charged with the intent of the practitioner that is considered an act of magick.

true, but its always nice to have a guide to differenciate between magic and psionics and while the line isent set in stone and can be a bit fuzzy at times its nice to have some idea where it is.....

I just wanted to add another note, that magicks is a practice that is used in many cultures, many religions and depending on the needed application, is done in many ways. The first thing that you need to decide before giving a beginners guide to the use or practice of magicks is what type of magik are you talking about.
All of the types are rarely if ever used by any one person and there are many types of magick that are very different but do the same thing. So I believe that it is the defining of the type of magik to be used, that would be your first step, then go on to define that type.
Just a suggestion.

Codelyoko, I will suggest two books to start with. They will give you an idea of basics, purposes and ritual forms of magicks. Wicca for Life by Raymond Buckland - A lot of very fundamental stuff here. Lemegeton the Complete Lesser Key of Soloman by Mitch Henson - Very ritualistic and deity aimed. There is a third book that is more complicated but good information once you get the basics. The Magus a Complete System of Occult Philosophy (1801) by Francis Barret Along with these, I would suggest a teacher. Someone who can help to guide you in the possibilities and validate your learning. Be careful not to just take on anyone, there are a lot of fakes that just because they read a book, think they can handle mystical practices. They can't.
